‘Inspiring Independent Learners with Jesus by our Side’

Year 3 2023 - 2024

Mrs Armstrong

 A very warm welcome to

Year 3 and Key Stage 2!

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to a new year and a new Key Stage. I hope you find the following important information useful:

The Key Stage 2 entrance is at the end of the pathway which starts at the back of the playground. Children are expected to walk this independently and say goodbye to parents/carers in the playground.

Uniform

Children should wear full school uniform. For details, please visit the 'Parents' tab of the website and look at the 'uniform shop' - 'school uniform guide'. It is essential that ALL uniform is named.

In Autumn 1, our PE days will be on Tuesdays and Fridays (Shorts required)

PE kit : a white PE t-shirt (with school logo or a plain t-shirt), green shorts, socks and trainers. Green PE hoodies and joggers are also available via the school website and can be worn as an extra layer in colder weather.

Long hair should be tied back. Please encourage your child to learn how to fasten their tie and shoe laces.

Reading Books

Children are asked to bring in their green reading record and reading book every day. Each Friday, the reading records will be collected so we can monitor the reading happening at home.

Please write the date, book title and comment if appropriate. Reading with your child regularly at home continues to be an invaluable support in Year 3.There are question stems available to help with talking about what they have read.

What bag should my child bring to school?

A  bag to hold an A4 homework book, water bottle, snack, reading book and reading record is sufficient. All the stationery that your child needs is provided in school so pencil cases are NOT a requirement.

Water Bottles

Children should bring in a named water bottle each day and a healthy snack for morning break.

Homework

Homework is set each Monday to be completed and handed in by the following Monday. A homework book will be sent home, explaining the task. It may be paper-based, practical or electronic. Children should complete written work in pencil and MUST take time to learn their log-ins for the various apps and websites they will use. These log-ins will be stuck in their homework books and reading journals.

Life Skills

It is important that your child knows their date of birth and can spell their surname, as well as their first name. Please help them to learn their times tables (2s 10s 5s 4s 8s and 3s) and practise telling the time from a digital and analogue clock.

I am looking forward to working with you all to make your child's learning journey in Year 3 a happy and rewarding one.

Kind Regards

Mrs Armstrong
