‘Inspiring Independent Learners with Jesus by our Side’

Year 2 2020 - 2021

Mr Armstrong

Year 2

A huge WELCOME to everyone in Year 2 this year.

We hope you have had an enjoyable Christmas break and are ready and excited to get back to school and continue our learning together.

To start with, here is a reminder of things that you may need to know about how school is working at present.

READING BOOKS--Will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays. Please only send the books in on these days. Please use the recording sheet at home to note the reading your have done and then we can provide you with a new one once complete.

HOME SCHOOLING HELP if you are isolating or quarantining:

These following websites have a bank of lessons, videos and activities for you to continue your child’s learning at home. However, these lessons are no longer daily like in lockdown.

Oak National Academy   https://classroom.thenational.academy/subjects-by-year/year-2

BBC Bitesize   https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/z7s22sg/year-2-and-p3-lessons

White Rose Maths  https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/  These videos follow what we are teaching at school but you will no longer have access to the worksheets. Nevertheless you can still answer questions on the presentations and maybe do some practical activities instead. Spelling shed, MyMaths, Numbots, timestable rockstars and Purple Mash challenges will also be available.

MORNING DROP OFF

Members of staff will greet pupils at the top of the school drive, where they will be directed to another member of staff and then to the designated entrance for them to enter school. The start to the school day will be staggered to avoid too many adults and children gathering together. To allow families to drop off children in different year groups, arrival and entrance into school will be staggered by surname

Surname R - Z drop off between 8.45 – 8.55

Surname H - Q drop off between 8.55 – 9.05

Surname A - G drop off between 9.05 – 9.15

PICK UP AT THE END OF THE DAY – Please be prompt

Pupils must be collected bubble by bubble at the following times:

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 – 3.00pm
Year 3 and Year 4 - 3.10pm
Year 5 and Year 6 - 3.20pm
If you have to collect more than one child, please arrive at the pick-up time for your oldest child and the other family members will be brought out to you.

Please follow the one-way system in place at the end of each day.
Walk down the path, into the carpark and enter into the school playground via the main gates. Wait in a playground space allocated to your year group, whilst observing social distancing. Pupils will be sent out to you in the playground.
Leave the school grounds promptly via the usual pathway and walk up the drive.
The school drive way will be coned off and vehicles will be prohibited from driving up or down at this time of day.
To reduce numbers on site, please limit the collection of your child to one adult, where possible.

UNIFORM:

Children should come to school in full uniform. Spring 1 uniform is Winter uniform. For details, please visit the 'Parents' tab of the website and look at the 'uniform shop' - 'school uniform guide'. It is essential that ALL uniform is named as we will be unable to rummage through the lost property at this time. Please also consider short sleeved shirts to enable easier handwashing.

WHAT TO BRING INTO SCHOOL:

Water bottle - filled with clean water each day.

Coat or hat (depending on the weather) which must be named.

You may also bring the following, if you wish:

A pencil case. This must be named, plastic and wipeable. You do not need to fill the pencil case as every child will be given their own resources.

Hand sanitiser or soap if your child cannot use those provided in school. This can be kept in their tray or by the sink but must be labelled with their name.

A healthy snack for play time. However, free fruit will be available for our children at morning break as usual. No chocolate please.

A packed lunch in a lunchbox, if your child is not having a school meal. Please note that Year 2 children are all entitled to a free school meal.

WHAT NOT TO BRING:

Book bag or rucksack - for the time being, UNLESS on stated book swap days.

PE bag - see below.

Money for snack - as the school kitchen will not be providing any snack at this time.

Toys or items to 'share'.

Face coverings/masks.

PE KIT:

For the time being the children will come to school in their PE days. We will still be doing PE on a Wednesday and Thursday after the Christmas break.

On PE days the children will need to come to school dressed in their white PE t-shirt (with school logo or a plain t-shirt), green shorts, socks and trainers. They may also wear a plain, dark coloured tracksuit. (The top will probably be needed every week but the wearing of trousers or shorts will depend on the comfort of your child and the weather).

If you have any questions, please get in touch with the school via email or catch us on the door at the end of the day.
