Year 1 2017 - 2018

Mrs Meadows

Welcome to Year 1!

The children have settled in really well into their new year group and class. We recognise that Key Stage 1 (Year 1/2) is different from the Foundation Stage and therefore we aim to manage the transition from Reception to Year 1 in a gradual, staged approach, which allows the children to adapt during the first Term. Ms Mahoney will be our teaching assistant in our class who will helping us regulary.

Homework

Homework will be given out on a Monday and returned on a Monday. There will be one piece of homework set fortnightly in the red homework book. Information will be provided in the book as to when the homework is due back, children will either have 1 or 2 weeks to complete their homework depending on the task. Every week the children will also get phonics homework which is to be returned on the following Monday.

Reading

Children should be reading regularly at home in a quiet and calm atmosphere and having the opportunity to talk about what they have read to ensure they have understood the book. Please feel free to make any comments about your child's reading their reading diary. In year 1, children take children for changing their books when they have finished and have the opportunity to do this in the morning. The children have been given a tricky word bookmark to keep in their book. They should be children to read and spell those words regularly at home.

PE

This term PE days are on a Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure kits are brought in every Monday. As we approach the colder days, children may bring in jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt for PE  (dark in colour) as PE will still continue outside. Also please ensure girls have socks with them as tights should not be worn for PE. Please ensure all PE kits are labelled.
