World Book Day 6th March 2020

World Book Day will be celebrated on Friday 6th March at St Bede's (nationally it is the 5th). As ususal, we invite all children to dress up as one of their favourite characters from a book and bring their book into school to share. We will also be running some fun reading competitions and all children will receive a book token at the end of the day to buy a brand new book to read!

What have we been up to?

Summer Reading Challenge

Well done to all the children who completed the summer reading challenge this year! We’re glad you had lots of fun in your library!

Paul Delaney Visit

Poet Paul Delaney visited our school this morning (22nd October) and the whole school thoroughly enjoyed listening to some of his poems in assembly. Year five and Six are working with him to create their own performance poems as well, four of which will be presented at the Poetry fesival next month!

Year Five and Six Reading Challenge

Year Five and Six are invited to take part in a reading challenge over the year. A reading display has been set up with 30 recommended reads for this age group. Once they have read one of the books, they can ask their teacher for a sticker - green, orange or red - to show how they rate the book. They will then stick their rating sticker on the cover of the book on the display. This will help other children to decide what to read next! Enjoy!

A Visit from local librarian, Helen Page

Year 5 had a brilliant afternoon with local librarian, Helen Page, who came in to share her knowledge and passion of books. They had great fun investigating different genres and deciding which ones they would like to read. Helen even let them keep five of their favourite books to keep in the class library!

World Read Aloud Day - 5th February 2020

World Read Aloud Day Banner

We love reading at St Bede’s and what better way to celebrate National Read Aloud Day than to mix up and read to each other! Some of the older classes enjoyed reading to the younger children in the school while some classes got the excitement of a mystery teacher reading to them!
