Year 2 2019 - 2020

Mr Armstrong

Welcome to Year 2!

Please see the new tab at the top of the page to access the home learning activities to help you and your child. Activities here are guides and to help, not a list of to dos. Feel free to adapt and amend the activities, mix them up, change them around and engage with as much or as little as you can. This is a strange time for us all, and each family will have their own set of unique circumstances they are dealing with. Please feel free to contact me on and I will help/advise with as much as I can.

Stay safe.

Welcome back to school and an exciting new school year. This year the children in Year 2 will be taught by Mr Armstrong. Ms Mahoney, Mrs Rudkin and Mrs Trigg will also be working within the class to support the children throughout the week.

We hope you all had a relaxing half term and are ready for a busy term, full of exciting and challenging activities. This half-term we will continung to investigate everyday materials in Science, and in Topic will be asking the question:

Which monarch improved everyday lives in castles and homes more, Queen Elizabeth I or Queen Victoria?’

Our class page will be updated throughout the year for information about what we are doing in school, photos of activities (in the gallery tab above) and useful links. You will also see other tabs at the top of this page which will guide you to the relevant areas. This will also be the place where you will find information about the week's homework.

End of day collection

If your child is to be collected by anybody different to their usual parent/carer, please pass a message to a member of staff on the door, or write a note in their reading journal.

Please ensure your child is dressed smartly and appropriately. Information about school uniform can be found under the parents' tab on the website. Also, please make sure all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child's name.

PE kits need to be brought in on Monday and kept in school for the whole week, they will then be brought home on Friday. Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child's name. Your child will need a white t-shirt, green shorts and trainers for warm weather or indoor PE and a tracksuit to wear outdoors in the colder weather. Currently we will be doing PE on a Monday and Friday.

Homework will be given out every 2 weeks on a Monday and will be due in on the following Monday. This will be one piece of either Maths, Literacy, Science, Topic or RE in their red homework books. For the second week, the children will be asked to concentrate on spellings/phonics and they may also be given a practical maths or a MyMaths task accessible online.

Reading Journals

Please use the reading journals to comment on your child’s reading throughout the year. For each entry please write the date, title of the book and a short comment about how well they did.  Please read with your child as often as you can but at least 4 times per week. Your child should bring home a reading book from school each day.  You may also use the book to write messages to us. We may also use it to write messages when we cannot speak to you in person.

If you have any queries, or wish to discuss a matter, please do not hesitate to contact one of us.
