Reception 2019 - 2020

Mrs Langton

Welcome to Reception

Welcome to Reception's class page. We hope you've had a lovely summer and are ready to start your exciting school journey!

We are looking forward to getting to know you all and share new experiences together and hope that both you and your child/children will feel very welcome here at St. Bede’s. The first half term in Reception will be very busy with everybody learning new routines and enjoying making lots of new friends. To help the children to settle well into school life they will be looked after by their Year 6 buddies.

Keep checking our class page weekly for letters and pictures of all the fun activities that we will be doing. Later on in the year we will set simple homework which will be communicated on the homework tab on the class page.

Make sure that you look at your child’s Learning Journey via the Tapestry website; this will keep you up to date with what they are learning in school. Please remember that you can add your own comments, photos and videos of what your child is doing at home onto Tapestry. We love to read all about the exciting things that have happened at home and all of the WOW moments you notice. You will have already received an email to sign up!

On a Monday afternoon we would like to invite a mystery reader into our class and come and read a story to the children at the end of the day. The children would love parents and family to be involved in our learning in this way. If you would like to take part in this, please let us know.

As a school we are always looking for new ways to include our parents in the everyday life of the school.  There will be an opportunity for an hour every term for you to visit us in our classroom for a ‘Stay and Play’ session.  This will give you the opportunity to see your child in their school environment and to experience first-hand what life in Early Years is all about.  We understand if you unable to attend but it would be lovely to see you if you can.  The sessions will begin when you bring your child into school and last until 10 am. The dates for Stay and Play will be confirmed in the next few weeks and will be put onto the class page.

End of day collection

If your child is going home with someone other than a parent/carer please make sure you inform the member of staff at the door in the morning or contact the school office.

PE kits will be sent home at the end of the half term (if they get very dirty we will send them home before!) This half term, we will be having PE on a Thursday morning and a Friday afternoon, but there may be extra sessions and so it is easier to keep the kit in school to allow flexibility. To avoid us sending home someone else’s belongings, please can you ensure that you label all of your child’s school clothing. As I am sure you can appreciate, it is very difficult to match up the correct clothing to the child when they all look the same!

Please also remember that your child needs a pair of named wellington boots that will remain in school.

In Reception we have daily phonics sessions. Phonics teaches children letter sounds which then enables them to blend and segment sounds together to help them learn to read and write. We will begin with Phase 1 which helps children to develop their listening skills, differentiation etween sounds and start to orally blend sounds together before moving on to Phase 2.
